Black Innovation Alliance Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Black Innovation Alliance (“BIA” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, processes, and protects information obtained through its digital platforms, programs, and services. This policy applies to all BIA services, programs, and platforms, including without limitation programs such as Source Code and any associated platforms, as well as any future offerings of the organization. By using BIA’s platforms or participating in BIA’s programs, users consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

BIA may collect personal and organizational information from users in connection with platform access, program participation, and data analysis activities.

Personal information may include identifiers such as name, email address, contact information, organizational affiliation, and demographic data. Users may also submit business-related information, including revenue data, operational metrics, ecosystem participation indicators, and other assessment inputs relevant to program participation.

BIA may also collect behavioral and engagement data related to user interactions with the platform, including without limitation responses to assessments, participation in programs, and usage patterns.

Technical information such as device identifiers, IP addresses, browser types, and analytics data may also be collected to support system performance and security.

3. Methods of Data Collection

Information may be collected directly from users through website forms, assessments, registration processes, and program participation activities. Data may also be collected through third-party platforms and service providers that support BIA’s operations, including survey tools, cloud infrastructure providers, customer relationship management systems, and analytics platforms.

4. Use of Information

BIA uses collected information for a variety of operational and analytical purposes. These purposes include operating and improving platform functionality, administering programs, communicating with participants, conducting research, generating ecosystem intelligence reports, and evaluating program outcomes.

Information may also be used to develop new tools, services, and analytical frameworks that support BIA’s mission and program initiatives.

5. Data Ownership

Users who participate in BIA programs retain ownership of the information and business data they submit to BIA. BIA does not claim ownership of a user’s underlying business information, intellectual property, or proprietary materials.

However, in order to operate its programs and generate ecosystem insights, BIA must be able to analyze and use the information submitted by users. By submitting information to BIA’s, each user grants BIA permission to process and analyze that information for program administration, research, reporting, and ecosystem development purposes.

By submitting information to BIA, users grant BIA rights to process, analyze, use, and incorporate submitted data into ecosystem reports, research outputs, analytics systems, and other programmatic activities.

6. Aggregated, Randomized, and Anonymized Data

A core component of BIA’s mission is to generate ecosystem insights that support entrepreneurs, partners, and funders. To accomplish this, BIA may transform submitted participant information into aggregated, anonymized, or randomized datasets that remove personal identifiers and cannot reasonably be used to identify individual entrepreneurs or businesses.

These datasets may be used to produce reports, research publications, ecosystem intelligence tools, or benchmarking analyses designed to better understand entrepreneurial ecosystems and inform investment or programmatic decisions.

BIA may share these aggregated and randomized reports with partners, funders, philanthropic organizations, research institutions, and other stakeholders who support entrepreneurial ecosystem development. BIA may sell or license aggregated, anonymized, or randomized datasets and ecosystem reports to partners, funders, research institutions, and other stakeholders.

At no time will BIA sell or disclose personally identifiable individual-level data without express consent.

7. Use of Automated Analysis and AI Tools

BIA may use automated analytical tools, including machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies, to analyze submitted information, identify ecosystem trends, improve program design, develop analytical models, and generate insights that support BIA’s programs and ecosystem research initiatives. These technologies may process participant information submitted through assessments, surveys, and program participation activities.

Where feasible, such processing may rely on aggregated or anonymized datasets. However, users acknowledge that submitted information may be analyzed using automated systems for purposes related to platform functionality, ecosystem intelligence reporting, research, and program evaluation.

8. Data Security

BIA implements administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the confidentiality and integrity of collected information. These safeguards may include encryption protocols, secure cloud infrastructure, access control mechanisms, authentication systems, and internal security procedures.

Despite these measures, no system can guarantee absolute security, and users acknowledge that data transmission over the internet carries inherent risks.

9. Data Retention

BIA retains personal information to fulfill operational, legal, research, or reporting obligations. Retention periods may vary depending on the nature of the information and applicable legal requirements. Users may request deletion of personal information, and such request will be honored unless applicable law requires retention of such information.

10. Third-Party Service Providers

BIA may share information with service providers that support platform operations. These providers may be, include, or provided, as applicable, cloud hosting services, analytics tools, survey platforms, and customer relationship management systems. These providers are contractually required to maintain appropriate data protection safeguards.

11. User Rights

Depending on applicable law, users may have rights to access, correct, or, as stated above, request deletion of personal information. Requests related to personal data may be submitted to us using the contact information listed below.

12. Updates to This Policy

BIA may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect operational changes, legal requirements, or program developments. Updated policies will be posted with a revised effective date.
