SESSIONS FOCUSED ON CORE CAPABILITIES IN FOUR KEY DEVELOPMENT AREAS

Strategy & Program Development

Funding and Partnerships

Operations and Systems

Staffing and Management

The Sustainability Summit is an annual convening of the Black Innovation Alliance’s membership, and BIA’s signature event.
Our ecosystem grows in real-time at the Summit, as members work with each other to find solutions to their greatest challenges, and the alliance comes together to celebrate a year of triumphs.

Why Sustainability Summit is important?

The Sustainability Summit is a critical event for Black innovators due to its demonstrated ability to build capacity within our own ecosystem. Leaders of Black Innovator Support Organizations all over the nation can deepen their connections, share strategies, and work together to increase each other’s momentum, which ultimately, pushes the entire alliance forward.
By encouraging Black innovators to submerge themselves in community with like-minded people, ingenuity and success blossom.

Check out this recap from last year's Sustainability Summit!

Here's some Member Testimonials from 2022!

The Summit will be held in Miami, Florida, at the Kimpton Epic Miami, 270 Biscayne Blvd. Way, Miami, FL 33131. The main sessions for Days 1, 2, and 3 will be located in the Metropolis Ballroom on the 14th floor.

Here is the current list of attendees. This list does not include speakers, BIA staff, agency partners, external vendors, or BIA funders.

If you do not receive your travel confirmation email by April 12, 2024, please contact OneTouch at [email protected].

The $250 fee was not designated for the Sustainability Summit with BIA. Instead, it was allocated to a member-funded fund intended to support initiatives of ecosystem builders like yourself. Refunds will not be issued within 4 weeks of the event. For refund inquiries beyond this timeframe, please reach out to [email protected].

BIA is covering…

  • Lodging at the resort
  • Airfare or Mileage (mileage for Florida residents only, not to exceed 400 miles)
  • Hotel parking (only for FL residents; no rental cars)
  • Ground transportation on departure day from the hotel to the airport
  • Prearranged Meals (Wednesday thru Friday afternoon)

BIA will not cover

  • Rental cars
  • Travel between your home and your departing airport
  • Optional hotel fees (i.e., resort fee)
  • Hotel incidentals (i.e., room service, minibar, or any other in-room dining)
  • Any non-approved expenses (i.e., checked baggage, flight upgrades)
  • Lost personal property
  • Expenses for spouse/significant other

Flight arrangements are made through a travel agency. If you need to adjust your flight, you are welcome to do so, but BIA will not be covering the cost, nor will the travel agent be available to assist. If an emergency arises and you need to cancel your flight and attendance, please contact [email protected].

The incidental deposit is $150 per night. Your deposit is fully refundable upon inspection of the guest’s room after departure.

No. Everyone will have their own room.

BIA members and staff have been put into a Sustainability Summit 2024 group within BIA Connect. You will be able to access Summit feedback links and other communication via BIA Connect.

Communication was sent out to members to invite their co-founder/coo. The final date for their RSVP submission and payment was Wednesday, April 3, 2024, by 5 PM EST.

You can bring your partner, but please make sure they understand you’ll be unavailable from early morning until late evening, except for lunch and breaks. We ask that no more than two people stay in your hotel room. At hotel check-in or after you receive your confirmation number, attendees may add their spouse/partner’s name to the hotel room. You may also call the hotel and add them prior to check-in.

Partners and spouses are responsible for their own travel arrangements and will not be reimbursed. Please view BIA’s Spousal Engagement Policy.

The Member Engagement Night is only for BIA ISOs. Your spouse/loved one cannot join you for this event, and will be on their own for dinner activities. Additionally, your spouse/loved one will be expected to cover the costs of their own meals and will not be included in your reimbursement coverage. Tuesday and Thursday evenings will be on your own, unless you choose to register for the Tuesday evening welcome reception/cocktail hour.

This year, there will be classes happening concurrently. Members will either be assigned to Track A or Track B. We wanted to offer the opportunity for as much learning as possible. The tracks have been assigned and will be given at the BIA Summit check-in station. Post Summit, videos from both tracks will be placed in BIA Connect for you to watch.

Sustainability Summit was designed to provide all attendees with a holistic experience over the course of three days. We highly discourage partial attendance.

However, should you only be able to join us for a portion of the event, please notify Member Experience ([email protected]) as soon as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

Pack clothes that you are comfortable in. These will be long days, and we suggest clothes that move and breathe. We also suggest packing layers in case the meeting rooms are too cool or too warm for your taste.

BIA will be hosting ‘early rise yoga’ on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7 – 7:45 am. You will find a yoga mat in your room. Pack your yoga clothes if you want to participate.

There will be a cocktail hour on Tuesday evening, and members & BIA staff are asked to wear all-white. Other attendees attending the cocktail hour may wear cocktail attire.

Florida weather can be unpredictable, and it is the rainy season, so please pack an umbrella

Bring your sunglasses and sunscreen, and feel free to bring your beachwear, as the Kimpton Epic is beach-adjacent. Just remember, our schedule is key!

Upon arrival, members and their companions are responsible for arranging their own transportation from the airport to the Kimpton Epic Hotel. We highly recommend sharing a ride with those who will arrive at the airport at the same time. Reimbursement is solely applicable for arrival transportation and will be granted upon submission of receipts and forms between May 7th and May 13th for approval, with no exceptions.

On the day of departure, BIA has secured shuttle pickup from Kimpton Epic to the airport based on your departure time. (There are exceptions for those arriving outside of the bulk arrival windows.) You will receive confirmation via individual emails, restating your flight information and shuttle times. If you have changed your flight information, it will look different in this email. Please head to the hotel foyer/front desk for shuttle pickup once packed and ready to depart.

Friday departures will have two shuttles heading back to the airports at two designated times.

See you in Miami, Friends!
