Scaling Liberation: Improving Opportunities Towards A Shared Prosperous Future
Innovator Lewis Latimer, whose brilliance gave us advancements in both the light bulb and telephone, left us with a profound charge: “we create our future by well improving present opportunities—however few and small they are.”
This wisdom continues to illuminate the path forward for the Black Innovation Alliance (BIA) as we design transformative solutions to address one of our era’s most persistent challenges: the racial wealth gap.
BIA End Year 2024 Recap

2024 Annual Report
In our fourth year since founding, BIA has embraced Latimer’s challenge with renewed vigor and purpose. We’ve launched strategic initiatives that not only strengthen existing institutions and markets, but also create new pathways toward a more equitable and accessible entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Our key achievements in 2024 demonstrate our commitment to scaling impact across multiple dimensions:
Catalyzing Capital
Launched an ambitious $300 million capital campaign to expand pathways and resources for marginalized entrepreneurs.
Amplifying Voices
Partnered with TIME magazine to bring “Closing the Wealth Gap” to its iconic cover, while launching our groundbreaking podcast and introducing Declaration ’26, our visionary roadmap for economic inclusion.
Advancing Policy
Deepened our engagement with the Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation and elevated the voices of first-generation business owners in both Congress and the White House.
Strengthening Our Network
Secured $2 million in grants to be deployed to our member organizations, enabling them to directly support thousands of entrepreneurs in their communities.
Enriching Our Culture
Enhanced our organizational effectiveness through intentional focus on reflection, continuous learning, and sustainable growth.
In a year when many questioned the importance of diversity initiatives, we remained steadfast in our mission. This period of reflection only strengthened our conviction that scaling toward a more liberated economic landscape is not just an aspiration—it’s an imperative.
As the dust settled, our role as pioneers in this transformation became even clearer. And the validation from both internal and external stakeholders proved that we are not alone in pursuing a more inclusive economic ecosystem.
This is Black Excellence at work!

While this report captures many of our significant achievements,
it represents just a portion of our impact.
Every initiative, whether major or modest, has contributed to our vision of an inclusive, innovative future. We are deeply grateful to our supporters—past, present, and future—who have helped us pivot from navigating uncertainty to scaling liberation.
